Song: "What A Fool Believes" The Doobie Brothers
Brilliant bright and just out of reach
Protected and taunting
The lemon is bold up there looking down at me.
What's holding you up there?
A thin twine line dangling you just...like...right there.
I'm going home.
I'm gonna come back tomorrow with a plan.
Brilliant bright and just out of reach
And what did the previous day teach?
Come back with a plan.
I came back with a ladder.
Step up and just reach
And still just out of reach.
The wind blew you to the right of my lean.
And my ladder won't get me to your place of rest.
Persistent
And now accepting a challenge.
I tell you what,
If I get my hands on you,
I'm gonna take you
And gently,
Careful
Squeeze
Awaiting a taste.
I'm gonna come back with a new plan.
Brilliant bright and just out of my reach
What did the previous day teach?
Come back with a new plan.
I came back with a ladder and a broom.
If I can just get the right swing
Get the bristles to help me win my lovely fruit,
Straw fingers lightly stroking you from underneath
I'll be able to have you in my grasp
My joy will be as bright as your skin.
I pushed too hard.
Poked too long.
And the lemon landed further UP the tree
Further away from me.
Dang it!
I'm gonna come back tomorrow with a new plan.
Brilliant bright and just out of reach
And what did the previous day teach?
Come back with a plan.
I came back with a ladder and a broom
And a pair of hedge clippers.
Ok...now I've got too much shit on me
Keep my balance,
Reach for you,
Keep myself safe
AND enjoy you
All at once.
My hands full
And so focused on you
Barely standing on the ladder
Broom in my left hand
Clippers in my right
I don't feel the ground growing closer.
I land square on my ass.
Don't stay down long
THAT would be embarrassing.
Play that shit off
Before anyone else catches my slip
I get up
Dust myself off
I go home
Carrying my bruised butt
My bruised ego
My ladder
My broom
And my clippers.
None of my plans are working
Maybe planning is the problem.
Don't know if I'll come back tomorrow.
Who am I foolin'?
Sure I will.
Brilliant and bright and just out of reach
And what did the previous day teach?
Come back...with just me.
No tools.
No plan.
No tricks.
No stunts.
Just me.
See,
While I was chasing that one
Lovely, brilliant bright lemon,
I missed the whole entire tree
Blossom and bloom
With possibilities.
Reach out my hand.
Hi.
Reach out my hand.
Hello.
Reach out my hand.
How are you?
Reach out my hand.
How do you do?
I go home.
With company.
Gentle rest my bounty on the kitchen table.
One by one,
Gently roll them under the warm touch of my hands.
Squeeze.
Have some water.
Add a little sweetness
A dap of honey
A shake of cane
An ice cube
Or two
Gently stir
Swirl and Mix.
Am I satisfied?
My thirst is quenched.
My tongue tasting familiar tones
A lovely sip
Of sour sweetness.
But that one lemon still rest on my mind.
Hmmmm...
I wonder,
What's tomorrow's plan?

Love love love the innuendo and the images it conjures up. I might be totally on the wrong track but in reading this, I didn't see, feel, smell, touch lemons at all. And the message... Never give up. Indeed, if its worth the trouble.
